AI-based Robot Calibration at Hannover Fair 2022

Together with our project partners DHBW Karlsruhe and the Institute of Industrial Manufacturing and Management at Stuttgart University, we developed and presented a demonstrator showcasing robot calibration with deep neural networks in the real world. A UR3 collaborative industrial robot is equipped with a laser pointer and programmed to point at slits in a board. Without AI-based calibration, the robot’s absolute positioning accuracy is not sufficient, and the laser is not visible behind the slits. With our neural calibration approach, the robot’s kinematics are corrected in software, and the laser beam becomes visible behind the slits.
